A little background to the Festival of Life logo

The logo came to me after an initial drawing as a result of a vision in my meditation and it was very colourful. However this was too wild and rich for a logo and symbol, so it had to be simplified. This gave me the unique opportunity to think about and create a powerful symbol.

With the initial idea of the sprouting seed, which to me is THE symbol of Life and a key ingredient in a living-food diet, as well as a clear symbol of sustainable living (all ingredients that make up this festival!) I explored the subject more.

The sprout to me was also, very importantly, a Universal symbol. I'm very aware that as soon as a person is drawn, however abstract, the danger of exclusion comes in. Is the person a man or a womb-one? What colour skin will the person have? Will it be a child, someone in their prime, or a more mature person? Etc.

That Peace is the most important ingredient to sustained living together of all peoples on this planet is something that's really clear to me. Also coming to be in peace with the Mother and her creations in the animal world and plant world is a vital part to the survival of the human species in my idea. So I wanted to include peace in the logo. And what can be a better way than a love-heart?! And so the sprout from the Heart-seed was born. Hoping that its image will inspire those who see it to open up their hearts and let their love seed sprout.

The seed is safely held and nurtured by the Earth's soil. And the Light , which is so important to the cycles of all and any living on this uniquely balanced and intertwined planet, is represented by the circle behind the sprout. It could be the Sun (rising/ setting), the Moon, or the Life energy halo of the sprout itself. All the different light sources that create growth, time, cycles, lifting of the spirits, motion and hope…

On the festival merchandise the sun has risen to its zenith as the festival will be in full swing when people see this. The rays flaring to the right create the feeling of movement. We are moving forward into a brighter future!!

The rays more and more on the left slowly turn into the petals of the flower the seed will grow into. The passage of time is shown in this one picture and gives a peek into how beautiful the future will be when all the seeds sown at the festival will come to fruition.

The creation of the logo has been a wonderful journey full of hope and excitement. And I feel very fortunate that my design was chosen. I look forward to welcoming you at the festival and share this hopeful picture of the future for ourselves, the seeds that have emerged and grown from us in the shape of our children and those who will regard us as their ancestors. May we inspire them by showing how a planets future can be redirected and show them that they are loved by the care we are taking now.

I wish you happiness, liberation, freedom, peace and love.
